December 21, 2009! 7 lbs 10 oz, 20 1/2 inches long

Baby Gavin is here!!!!

We had a false alarm Sat. am (the 19th) at 2:00... we went to Kaiser because contractions were so steady and getting stronger...but it was a false alarm. Gavin wasn't ready yet. I was dialted to a 2 and 50% effaced for 2 weeks. Having contractions the entire time was the most frustrating thing of all. I was constantly wondering "Is he coming?" But I went to my parents house Sunday the 20th and contractions got stronger and stronger, I knew he had to be coming soon. So MikE and I went back to Kaiser and they started monitoring me. I was still at a 2 but since the contractions were so close together and strong, they decided to keep me through the night. At 8 am on Monday morning I was finally at a 4. They admitted me and started the epidural right away. It was just a few hours til' I was at a 10. I thought this is great! I was feeling really good wondering why I feared this moment for so long and it wasn't that bad... not until they told me to PUSH! Wow this was time well waited for. It was intense...words cannot describe! I pushed for 3 1/2 hours. Gavin was stuck and cord was around his neck pretty good. But after much work he came out!!! YAY!!! I found out later that protocol for pushing is to not exceed 3 hours and if you do then they are to do an immediate c-section. But at the same time their were 5 c sections going on and no doctors available to perform one on me. What a blessing that my midwife was so sweet and had more confidence in me than I had. Gavin had to come vaginally! I'm so grateful that after dialating fully and pushing that I didn't have to recover from a c section and vaginally! Well, for 9 months I wondered what my delivery story would be and well there it is! But Gavin is worth every push! He is A-Mazing!

What a beautiful birth story. way to stay strong even after such a long time of laboring.... having contractions last for that long sounds awful... but like you said, that gorgeous guy is totally worth it. and the fact that you were able to go forward vaginally is a huge blessing, i am sure, for pregnancies/labors to come. thank heavens it worked out that you weren't immediately sent in for c-section. congrats cous!!!!
